Like many girls grow­ing up, I found solace in mag­a­zines — the lovely smell straight from the print­ers, the glossy, colour­ful pages, the beau­ti­ful, dis­tin­guished peo­ple and the glam­orous image of the edi­tor who you see when you open the first few pages.

It’s a love affair that has only grown with time, how­ever what I find most appeal­ing these days, is not what’s hap­pen­ing on the well-heeled run­ways, but on the worn, concrete-embedded side­walks where both men and women cre­ate their own looks, their own style.

Street fash­ion and style has always blos­somed, but with the resource­ful capac­ity of the World Wide Web, we can now wit­ness dif­fer­ent street styles all over the world.

From Mex­ico to Rus­sia, and Manila to Barcelona, peo­ple are embrac­ing their own indi­vid­ual styles and shar­ing this with the world.

The Sar­to­ri­al­ist put the idea on the global map, but what I find great is that there are more and more pop­ping up all the time.

I decided to start Street Muse on my return from Europe. After splurg­ing half my sav­ings at Top­shop, I was wait­ing for my boyfriend on the side­walk, when I was approached on the street by a French girl, who wanted to take my photo.

She was tak­ing pho­tos for a French style site called Made­moi­selle some­thing, I for­get now, and I thought, “Wow, I’d love to be able to do this for Perth.”

From there, Street Muse began. I try not to limit myself by loca­tion or street fash­ion, but what I think read­ers of Street Muse might like.
