“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Coco Chanel
Like many girls growing up, I found solace in magazines — the lovely smell straight from the printers, the glossy, colourful pages, the beautiful, distinguished people and the glamorous image of the editor who you see when you open the first few pages.
It’s a love affair that has only grown with time, however what I find most appealing these days, is not what’s happening on the well-heeled runways, but on the worn, concrete-embedded sidewalks where both men and women create their own looks, their own style.
Street fashion and style has always blossomed, but with the resourceful capacity of the World Wide Web, we can now witness different street styles all over the world.
From Mexico to Russia, and Manila to Barcelona, people are embracing their own individual styles and sharing this with the world.
The Sartorialist put the idea on the global map, but what I find great is that there are more and more popping up all the time.
I decided to start Street Muse on my return from Europe. After splurging half my savings at Topshop, I was waiting for my boyfriend on the sidewalk, when I was approached on the street by a French girl, who wanted to take my photo.
She was taking photos for a French style site called Mademoiselle something, I forget now, and I thought, “Wow, I’d love to be able to do this for Perth.”
From there, Street Muse began. I try not to limit myself by location or street fashion, but what I think readers of Street Muse might like.
If you ever have any suggestions, or events you think I should attend, please email me at streetmuse@ymail.com or danihanrahan@yahoo.com
Thanks guys!
